10 Articles to Read Over the Holidays

My Instapaper archive is filling up because I have so many great articles that I’ve found recently.  Most of these are older articles, that I found while finally having a chance to go through all my favourite feeds in Google Reader. My Christmas gift to you – ten fantastic articles I’ve collected over the past month to share with you. I hope these keep you busy over the holidays.

• 7 Things Clients Should Know About A Web Designer’s Job – I really liked this article, and it made me smile after a tough week at work. Don’t we all wish our clients better understood what it is we actually do?
• How to Get 8GB+ Extra Dropbox Space for Free with Google AdWords – This article inspired me to run my own AdWords campaign with a free AdWords coupon I got in the mail, and I maxed out my Dropbox referrals in just a few days without paying a dime. Sweet!
• 5 Things Designers Can Learn From Sports – I thought this was a really good article. As a hockey fan, I found that this article really resonated with me.
• Creativity vs. Strategy: What Do People Really Want?
• Brace Yourselves, Programming Jokes Are Coming – A bunch of jokes for the programmers and developers among us.
• Reasons Why Every Web Designer Should Blog – This article just reminded me why I need to update my blog more often – and one of the reasons why I’m writing this very article. If you are a web developer or designer, you have to read this – and then make a new years resolution to blog more (or start blogging)!

• 15 Apps to Help You Compress Images Without Losing Quality – I have been a big advocate of Smush It since I first stumbled across it about 18 months ago. This is a great list of alternatives to SmushIt, most of which I didn’t even know existed.

Now my Instapaper account seems much lighter. I’m planning to do a these sort of reading lists regularly in the new year, so stay tuned in 2012. Also be sure to check back on December 31 when I’ll be doing my predictions for the web in 2012.
